To build a new energy storage system, it is necessary to realize large-scale long-term energy storage as an important direction to overcome in the future
Release Date:2024.05.22

On March 26, the Boao Forum for Asia 2024 Annual Conference opened in Boao, Hainan province. With the theme "Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Common Responsibilities", the Forum calls on all countries to jointly meet global challenges and shoulder the responsibility of promoting peace and prosperity.

According to data released by the National Energy Administration, by the end of 2023, China's cumulative installed power generation capacity is about 2.92 billion kilowatts. Among them, hydropower, wind power, solar power accounted for 50.4%, more than thermal power (47.6%). In China's 14th Five-Year Plan, the goal of "renewable energy generation capacity by the end of 2025 to reach more than 50%" was achieved ahead of schedule.

Energy is an important foundation for the entire national economic and social development, and is also one of the biggest driving forces for human development. Environmental and climate issues are the major challenges facing the current energy development. Therefore, the energy transformation must be a green and low-carbon transformation, and the core issue that needs to be solved in the green and low-carbon transformation is scientific and technological innovation and technical support, and the construction of a new energy system must realize the transformation of green, digital intelligence, integration and innovation.

In the future, the installed scale of renewable energy will be further expanded. Under the "double carbon" goal vision, China's entire energy structure will also undergo great changes. Of course, when it comes to green electricity, the current operating cost of solar photovoltaic power generation in China is lower than coal power, and the next key is to solve the problem of energy storage.

To build a new energy storage system, a very important content is to achieve large-scale long-term energy storage. At present, fossil energy still occupies the main energy output, on the one hand, China is a manufacturing country, in the process of energy transformation, can not ignore the backstop role of coal and other fossil energy; On the other hand, compared with fossil energy, wind power, photovoltaic and other new energy sources have intermittent and volatile characteristics, and it is necessary to build a reasonable proportion and high safety energy storage facilities.

The development of new energy storage, once it has a long-term, stable and economic energy storage function, can fully achieve zero-carbon energy self-sufficiency in various fields.

With the development and support of science and technology, energy utilization efficiency will continue to improve, and energy storage technology will continue to develop, which is a general direction. At the same time, these technologies and industries can be used to support the transformation of the energy mix. For example, last year, the installed capacity of new energy power generation in China exceeded that of fossil energy power generation, which is the result of innovation.

In the process of building a new energy system, how to achieve more efficient, lower cost and safer scientific and technological innovation and industrial support for new energy, and gradually realize the perfect match between new energy such as scenery and energy storage and fossil energy, these need to play the role of scientific and technological innovation.
